Wired News: The Changing Face of E-Mail

Wired News: The Changing Face of E-Mail -- More riffing on the "E-Mail is Dead" meme. It mentions a conversation grouping function from Outlook 2003 -- what is so transparent in GMail is equally obtuse in Outlook. The thin client is gaining ground. I think e-mail will split in 2 directions -- real interpersonal communications will move to IM with the "allow this person to add you to their contacts list"-style authentication, with some level of web-based social networking intertwined. Newsletters, stock alerts and other desired information resources will move from e-mail to feeds. All that will be left of e-mail is the spam. E-mail is the new gopher -- dead before its time.
