Gmail accounts go up for bid

Gmail accounts go up for bid | CNET News.com -- I have one in reserve to give out right now, and the eBay idea did cross my mind, but it seems crass, almost flying in the face of the egalitarian aspects of google as a whole. Maybe disrespectful even.

Google Files Long-Awaited I.P.O.

Ugh -- I thought I was going to explode. Finally, Google has filed IPO paperwork. It looks like Dan Gillmor nailed most of the particulars yesterday. I thought that all seemed a little pie in the sky, but those google guys never fail to amaze.

iTunes 4.5 adds .WMA support?

I don't recall previous versions adding my .wma's to the library. Having previously encoded a lot of my collection in that format, that limitation was a big barrier against me dropping WMP altogether for a pure iTunes existence.

ZMH loses some steam but I feel fine...

After taking some profit last week at $82.99 against the advice of #1 advisor, I am relieved to see that ZMH lost a little steam today, falling to $80.75. I want to get back in, but I would like to see it fall just a bit more first...

Wired News: Bush on electronic health records

Wired News: Bush: on electronic health records: "Bush also set a goal for most Americans to have electronic health records within 10 years. Paper ones, he says, can lead to errors, inefficiencies and poor communication among doctors and nurses. To help reach the goal, the president is creating a national health information technology coordinator, a sub-Cabinet-level position." -- This makes a lot of sense (privacy implications, aside) -- in light of the friction and graft that incomprehensible, incompatible, unaggregatable paperwork adds to the healthcare process. Greater transparency in the billing process driven by XML-style data streams between healthcare providers, insurers and patients, would decrease the number of costs that remain hidden to patients. Of course, those "hidden costs" always show up ont he final bill... Trends in ailments and their treatments could be aggregated and mined more effectively -- perhaps diagnosing potential epidemics before they reach truly epidemic proportions.

Mark Cuban lays the lumber on the Donald, recounting a meeting 5 years ago that inspired his “nice-guy” billionaire persona… "Let’s get some things cleared up in case anyone is confused. The Benefactor is going to be nothing like The Apprentice. Why? Because, Donald, we are not alike in any way. The funny thing is, in some respects, I have you to thank for that."
