Nike: See Lance Ride

Nike: See Lance Ride -- It seems like it has been years since I've seen a commercial as good as this one. Evocative. Provocative. The VW/Nick Drake "Pink Moon" spot was maybe the last one. Before that, I would go back to the "There is no finish line." retrospective spot that ran in 1991.

Gates Pushes 'Power to the People' Message

Gates Pushes 'Power to the People' Message: "Microsoft's chairman talks up the business benefits of blogging, RSS, online meetings and other user-empowerment technologies to 100 top CEOs." -- so is this the end of the beginning or the beginning of the end?

CNN.com - Hastert questions McCain's GOP credentials - May 20, 2004

House Speaker Dennis Hastert's ugly display on Capitol Hill calls into question his leadership skills, if not his sanity.
"If you want to see the sacrifice, John McCain ought to visit our young men and women at Walter Reed and Bethesda. There's the sacrifice in this country."
I would think Senator McCain's time in the Hanoi Hilton should probably give him a PhD in "sacrifice for your country." All this grief just for supporting fiscal responsibility.

GMail gave me TB

Some GMail users are seeing 1 TB of storage in their accounts. I noticed when my usage dropped from 3% to 0% earlier today. Honestly, even with a GB in hand, I have been a little retentive about cleaning out spam and trash folders. Now holding 1 TB, I guess I can chill and let those folders manage themselves.

Doh! -- then they took it away. Well, 1 GB is pretty good anyway. (updated 5/19/04)

Blog Advertising?

In my InfoWorld Feed in NewsGator, I got this post:
The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said it is working with Cisco Systems Inc. to investigate the theft of computer source code from the networking company, said Paul Bresson, an FBI spokesman.

Night and Day Contacts

I have been wearing Ciba Vision Night and Day Contacts for about a year and a half now, and I could not be more pleased with the results. They are incredibly low maintenance, comfortable and clear.

The Downward Spiral -- 10 Years Later

Today's Musical Challenge -- listen to the last nine tracks of NIN's The Downward Spiral and explain to me how that isn't one of the best albums of the past 25 years.

Orkut

I have now achieved geek-actualization. I have entered the world of Orkut. Now all I need to do is get my VOIP home phone working and I will chalk up one of my geekiest weeks ever.

SIRIUS plays the Grey Album -- How does that work?

I've been enjoying my new Sirius satellite radio for about a month now. But I am curious, how can they play cuts from DJ Danger Mouse's banned Grey Album that mixes Jay-Z with the Beatles? The songs are wicked, but it is intriguing to me -- I guess they are edgy...

A Salty Salute

The Strokes were in generally good form Friday night in Indianapolis. Oddly, "Last Nite" was a bit off, but they were otherwise pretty tight. Opening the set with Guided by Voices' "A Salty Salute" was a most excellent tribute to the midwest's finest LO-FI outfit. Indianapolis is clearly GBV's turf.

ZMH at $169.06? -- Maybe it is Split Day?

Schwab paged me at 8:30 that ZMH was @ $169.06, up 106.55% from Friday's close. Which makes me wonder -- is today the long-awaited split day? 2 for 1? 3 for 1? That would be most excellent.

electronic hand dryer really works?

Boing Boing: New electronic hand dryer really works? -- but Mark fails to explain why you need the paper towels -- how will you open the door while retaining any level of cleanliness? As long as most men fail to adequately wash their hands after using the facilities, the outbound men's room door handle will continue to be the most infested object in the universe.

Bottles to diapers, dad has all the data

Another media note, this time in the Charlotte News-Observer, about my favorite website, the Trixie Update.

salesforce.com offers a free personal edition

I didn't know that salesforce.com offered a personal, 1-user edition for free -- it is pretty sweet. Outlook is a drag and GoldMine got too old and crufty to deal with. The best part -- it is free.
